Grapes on the vine

ALL OF THE FLAVOR, NONE OF THE ATTITUDE

California’s Sierra Nevada Foothills region is the perfect place for people who just like wine.

The fun, family-owned wineries of the Sierra foothills serve great wines in a casual atmosphere, and you don’t need to be a wine connoisseur to visit. You don’t even need to know a Barbera from a Zinfandel to enjoy the tasting experience, you just need to enjoy wine, like we do! There are more than 250 wineries in the Sierra Foothills region just over a 2 hour drive from the Bay Area, many making award winning wines.

This is the primary area we will explore in our travels

At our local wineries you can meet and chat with the owners, winemakers, and oftentimes their families, too! They can help you figure out which wines you like best, and why, to help you better enjoy your all around wine consumption – because you want to know that when you order a glass (or bottle) of wine, you’ll like it! This is a great place to learn more about different wines, wine terminology, food and wine pairings and more. We learn something new with every winery we visit.

You can participate in a variety of experiences at our wineries: listen to live music, snuggle with goats, or just chill at a picnic table and enjoy the incredible views. The wines are delicious, the views are breathtaking, the people are friendly and the prices are affordable.

While this web site primarily focuses on wineries, there is so much more to experience in the foothills. You won’t want to miss the majestic giant sequoias of Big Trees State Park, beautiful gold rush towns like Groveland, Sutter Creek and Murphys, old gold mines and magnificent caverns. We will talk about those, too.

At Casual Wining, we will explore the gorgeous wineries of the Sierra Foothills region of California and share what we learn o our blogs and videos. We will taste all types of wines, learn what all those fancy wine terms mean, and even check out some side adventures. We invite you to follow along and learn with us!
